The American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is a grassroots, civil rights organization that welcomes people of all backgrounds, faiths and ethnicities as members. ADC works to protect the civil rights of all people of Arab heritage in the U.S. by conducting political advocacy, providing legal services and raising awareness of Arab-American interests and issues in the mainstream U.S. media. ADC is also committed to promoting a more balanced approach to U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East and to supports freedom and development in the Arab world. In its outreach work within the Arab-American community, ADC encourages greater civic participation in local, state and federal electoral politics. ADC also works to provide schools and communities with educational materials about the Arab-American community and the Arab world in order to dispel stereotypes and promote understanding. The New York Chapter of the ADC shares the mission of the national organization and strives to accomplish these goals in the New York City area. Our work towards these goals, in conjunction with ADC's New York Office, involves advocacy to local, state and federal elected officials, media appearances in the New York area, provision of legal referral assistance and organization of cultural and educational events on issues of interest or concern to the Arab-American community. As part of our outreach efforts, we organize legal workshops, media advocacy training sessions, educational lectures and social events open to members and non-members. We also strive to develop a strong network between the New York Arab-American community and local elected officials, the local media and the civil liberties and immigrants' rights organizations based in New York through activism and outreach. ADC New York events are open to everyone in the New York area and we welcome suggestions and feedback from our members and supporters.
