Aero Gear was established in 1982 by Doug Rose and his father, Walter Rose, after the sale of Rose's company, Windsor Manufacturing, to the Barnes Group. Walter Rose owned and managed Windsor Manufacturing for 30 years prior to its sale. With Pratt & Whitney's encouragement to provide a source for carburized and hardened gears for the aerospace industry in Connecticut, Aero Gear was formed. The company started with just one employee splining parts for other job shops.
