Description

Dealing with weather, and market prices is hard enough, but often your farm clients also participate in Farm Service Agency programs. These programs are designed to provide an economic safety net to the producer. But as you can imagine, sometimes dealing with a government agency can take time and you may leave with more questions than answers. As your agency’s crop insurance resource we just want to remind you that we’re hear to help your growers navigate through these various programs.

Producers who suffered crop production losses due to natural disasters during the 2008 crop year currently have the opportunity to sign up for this program. SURE provides crop disaster assistance payments to eligible producers on farms that have incurred crop production or crop quality losses. The program takes into consideration crop losses on all crops grown by a producer. Sign ups for this program began in January 2010.

Also available to established operations is the Adjusted Gross Revenue-lite (AGR-lite) program. AGR-lite works to provide a revenue floor for the producers operation. Often a grower’s profitability is not solely affected by direct yield losses from weather, diseases and insects, but from the reduction in quality and revenue those perils may cause. AGR-lite is based on the last 5 years of your gross revenue from crop proceeds. It allows you the flexibility to manage more effectively, knowing you have a program in place to help meet your fixed operating costs.

We work with several of the major national carriers, such as John Deere, AgriLogic, and Rain & Hail, and we are a proud member of the Trusted Choice, Insurance Brokers & Agents of the West (IBA West), Farm Bureau, and many other organizations. Because of our unique and specialized expertise many prominent Property Casualty agencies have partnered with us to handle their clients’ crop insurance needs. This allows their clients to have access to these specialized programs, which adds to their list of resources they bring together to help meet their clients needs. While our staff has steadily grown, our data processing center remains in Hanford, California. We are committed to the clients we serve and make unique use of resources and technology to make our programs very user friendly, and an asset to the growers we serve.

Orchardists and nursery tree growers must have obtained a Federal Crop Insurance policy for all crops they commercially produce or have obtained Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP). For the 2009 and subsequent program years, producers or legal entities whose average nonfarm AGI exceeds $500,000 are not eligible. For the 2008 program year, producers are not eligible if their average AGI is $2.5 million or greater, unless 75 percent or more of their AGI is from agriculture.
