Description
Our ATI-LA founders, board, and faculty collectively represent a wide variety of backgrounds, having trained in London with Walter and Dilys Carrington, in New York with Judy Liebowitz and other ACAT senior teachers, and in San Francisco with Frank Ottiwell, and Giora Pinkas. Additionally we all had the good fortune to have done postgraduate studies with other first-generation teachers including Dr. Wilfred and Marjorie Barlow, Marjorie Barstow, and Patrick Macdonald. Our eclectic teaching styles, based solidly on F. M. Alexander’s principles, demonstrate an exciting variety of approaches to teaching the Alexander Technique. Our trainees benefit from our interest in preserving the traditional pedagogy and exploring new developments in the Technique. Through our expertise, extensive professional experience, and this unique collective, we offer an exceptionally rich, dynamic Teacher Training Course. Note: All members of the Board of Directors have taught and may teach on the course. The course sponsors visiting teachers, and local teachers are available to assist when needed. Lyn Charlsen Klein is Director of Training. Brief History The Alexander Training Institute of Los Angeles was founded in 1986 by Pamela Blanc, Lyn Charlsen, Lena Frederick, Michael Frederick, Sydney Harris, Babette Markus, Frank Ottiwell, Jean-Louis Rodrigue, and Judith Stransky. For many years Frank Ottiwell and Judith Stransky were advisors providing valued guidance. In 1996 Frances Marsden joined our faculty and later came on the Board of Directors. We have also been involved over the years with the development of the national organization of Alexander Teachers, American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT), which is affiliated with the other professional Societies of Alexander Technique throughout the world.
