My friend, Craig Windbigler, and I started in his garage building Model A frames (thus, the name A Plus). We both were working at Alcoa, while working in the evenings and weekends on our hobby. In 1987 Craig thought he might be getting transferred and I bought him out, doing nothing with the business until the early 90's when major companies, like Alcoa, began cutbacks and layoffs. I started looking at my options. Again, working out of a garage, we started adding parts for sale. In 1995 we bought the trailer and kept adding parts for sale and making it to shows on the weekends. My wife, Kay, retired in 2000 after working for 21 years as a surgery technician. We opened A Plus's first retail shop in 2001. Craig operated the A Plus fab shop, Jim Hamilton and Kay operated the store and catalog sales, and I ran the trailer on the weekends. We moved into our present location in January of 2002, which has approximately 9,000 square feet of show room and warehouse space, plus a place to work on our own vehicles. We are fully dedicated to making A Plus one of the best shops anywhere!
