Wichman Monuments was founded in 1946 by F. W. Wichman, Sr. Mr. Wichman moved to Chattanooga in 1937 to build and run a branch office for Columbus Marble Works in Columbus, Mississippi. After World War II ended in 1945; Mr. Wichman decided the time had come for him to start his own business. So by February 20, 1946, he had opened his doors at 5225 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee. The business grew and expanded and by 1977; he retired and his son, Fred Wichman, Jr. became president and C.E.O. Fred began working in the business at an early age and by 1953 was working full time. He has had extensive training in memorial design and modern manufacturing techniques.
