Your trip to Germany is organized by the American Association of Teachers of German, a professional association focused on quality German learning, and the Pedagogical Exchange Service (Pädagogischer Austauschdienst) , a department of the Secretariat of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Founded in 1926, AATG is the only national organization representing German teachers at all levels of instruction. The AATG is dedicated to the advancement and improvement of the teaching of the language, literature, culture, and civilization of the German-speaking countries. Its membership is near 5,000, of which 55 percent are elementary and secondary teachers, and 45 percent represent college and universities.
Study Trip Award. For over 50 years, the Federal Republic of Germany, through the Auswärtiges Amt and its Pädagogischer Austauschdienst, has provided the AATG/PAD Study Trip Awards, a 3-4 week trip to Germany in the summer following the Exam. Students attend classes at an academic high school, stay in homestays, and participate in various excursions to places of cultural significance.
AATG has contracted with Quia Corporation to deliver the National German Exam. The Exam will be delivered in an online platform that will allow for the addition of video clips as source material for exam questions. This delivery system will also give students the ability to pause audio and video materials, and replay portions as needed. The practice exams reflect the structure and functionality of the new NGE. They are comprised of 100 questions divided into two sections. Section I assesses listening and viewing and consists of 40 questions.
The Friends of AATG Endowment was founded to support the association and assure the continuation of AATG’s programs and services to German teachers in the US.
