At Abba’s Child Learning Center, we provide screening and referral services for visual processing problems. Some of our students have benefited from treatment methods that utilize colored overlays or tinted lenses, while other students have benefited from visual training therapy with a behavioral optometrist. Benefits from the effective treatment of visual processing problems may include the elimination of headaches and fatigue from reading, along with improvement in academics, coordination, and self-confidence.

For children who actually have a physiological Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, we recommend working with a doctor or other health practitioner who has specific training and experience in resolving symptoms caused by nutritional deficiencies, food sensitivities, and other physiological problems.

Roberto D’Amico has an MA in counseling psychology. He has spent over 25 years providing counseling and social services to children, adults, and families. Roberto’s work has focused primarily on improving family functioning, especially in the area of child abuse/neglect prevention and intervention. He is a Listening Professional trained in using Integrated Listening Systems to help people with auditory processing disorder, sensory integration problems, speech delays, autistic spectrum disorders, and other learning problems.

Children who come to school hungry are less able to learn. Likewise, children who eat a diet loaded with sugar and refined foods are often troubled by excessive physical activity and poor concentration, as well as general health problems. If your child already has learning difficulties, please don’t make the challenges harder with a poor diet. Help your child gradually to develop a taste for fresh fruits and vegetables and for nuts and dried fruit, instead of sugary and fatty snacks. Eliminate soft drinks. And be sure to provide a healthy breakfast to start the day right.
