The Residency Fee is an entrance fee to help maintain the day-to-day operations of the community. It is the foundation for the Residency Agreement, a relationship agreement between the resident and Abernethy Laurels. The agreement establishes the resident as part of the Abernethy Laurels community, and makes provisions for level of care changes and health care needs. Are any of the fees refundable? The Residency Fee is partially refundable to the resident or their estate upon separation from Abernethy Laurels on a graduated scale, based on the initial contract. Are fees fixed or can they change? The Board of Directors of United Church Homes and Services reviews all fees annually. Adjustments are made effective at the beginning of each fiscal year, with 30 days notice given to all residents. Is there a Future Residency Program? Yes. Do you want to take steps to make Abernethy Laurels your home, but you aren't quite ready to make that move? You can join the Laurels Club for $1000 and be placed on a priority list for available homes, invitations to special events and happenings at Abernethy Laurels. Is there an application process? Yes. Make an appointment with the Marketing Staff to obtain an information packet and arrange for a personal tour. Select the type of residence that you desire. Return the completed Application for Residency, along with $500 per person non-refundable application fee to the Marketing Office. The Criteria for Residency is listed below. The Criteria for Residency The following summarizes the guidelines used by the Residential Living Admissions Committee: Finances: Eligible applicants demonstrate assets and monthly income sufficient to pay for all anticipated costs for their lifetime, including level of care changes, without significant change in their current lifestyle. Age: Residents or spouse must be at least 62 years old. Health: Applicants must be able to live safely at the level of care requested. Social Interests: Applicant interests, temperament and outlook should contribute positively to living harmoniously in a community setting What is the Residency Process? After your application is approved, a marketing staff member will ask you to complete the Future Residency Agreement. The Future Residency Agreement is a brief form outlining your desired residence and the projected date of move-in. To reserve a residence, you make a 10% deposit of the Residency Fee. This holds the selected residence for up to 90 days or until residence is in "move-in condition." A Physician's report is completed and returned to the Marketing Office. Your move in date is chosen. We will help coordinate the details of your move with you. Prior to your move, the Residency Agreement and the balance of the Residency Fee is due. A Welcome Program and a thorough orientation from staff and residents help you feel at home right away. May I bring my pet? Yes. Some restrictions are given depending upon the location of residence.
