AccSys Technology, Inc. of Pleasanton, California, today announced that the company ’s first LANSAR ® Model PL-11(11.0 MeV) proton linear accelerator (linac) has been shipped to and passed the Final Acceptance Test at KURRI (Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute) for a project operated by the FFAG-DDS Research Organization. This project aims to develop a new system and technology for neutron capture therapy funded by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization; http://www.nedo.go.jp/english/index.html) in Japan. FFAG-DDS Research Organization is duly organized and existing under the laws of Japan with its place of business at Mita station building AMITA 801, 5-31-7, Shiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo-to, 108-0014 Japan. In this project, this PL-11 is used as the proton injector of 11.0 MeV to the FFAG (Fixed Field Alternating Gradient) accelerator which is for the neutron source of BNCT (Boron Neutron Capture Therapy). The Project is for R&D on a next-generation DDS-type Malignant Tumor Therapy System. The Project will span three years from FY2005 to FY2007 and represents one of the Biotechnology and Medical Technology Development Projects promoted by NEDO. The Model PL-11 proton linac is a compact linear accelerator consisting of one RFQ (Radio Frequency Quadrupole Linac) and two DTL (Drift Tube Linac) subsystems. This linac represents the upgraded version of the Model PL-7 (7.0 MeV) consisting of one RFQ and one DTL which has been widely used in various commercial, medical and R&D fields.
