Computer forensics is the fascinating field of recovering, examining and analyzing evidence from digital sources, which include computers, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), and cellular telephones. It is used in a variety of environments, including criminal investigations, criminal and civil law defense preparation; complex civil litigation cases; employment law issues, such as terminations for misusing company computers; the misuse or theft of trade secrets; and critical data recovery, to name a few. Even if a computer user attempts to delete, password protect, or hide files, digital evidence can still be recovered. The use of computer and digital devices has been expanding exponentially since the mid 1990's.
