The Telecommunications Act of 1996 opened the door to competition in the local telephone market similar to the way the long distance markets were opened to competition in 1982. Access America received approval from the State of Tennessee in 1996 to offer local telephone service in Tennessee. Access America was the first company in Tennessee to offer competitive local telephone service. We also provide Access America Complete , a hosted PBX telephone system that relies on IP (internet protocol) technology and uses Cisco 7960 and 7940 telephone sets and is perfect for smaller offices who don't want to purchase a phone system, just the sets, or for large organizations that want a single phone system that connects all of their offices without requiring channelized T1s connecting multiple on-premises phone systems.
