CURRENT Technologies is the industry's leading provider of Broadband over Power Line (BPL) solutions. Founded in July 2000, it is a privately held company based in Germantown, Maryland that is focused on building and delivering innovative BPL equipment and networks. Current Technologies® BPL equipment is overlaid on the electric distribution network to offer high speed broadband services. CURRENT Technologies BPL network also enables utilities to offer new, Smart Grid Services such as automated meter reading, automated outage detection, and direct load control.CURRENT Technologies BPL solution is being deployed commercially with Duke Energy, formerly known as Cinergy, in and around Cincinnati, Ohio with plans to expand elsewhere in Duke's 1.5 million customer service territory in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The network’s robust performance and reliability have created high customer satisfaction. In 2006, the solution will be deployed to the first of a planned two million homes in Dallas, Texas and in other communities in Texas in conjunction with TXU Electric Delivery, owner of the nation's sixth largest U.S. Electric transmission and distribution company and subsidiary of TXU Corp.Successful smaller scale deployments have also been in operation in Maryland with Pepco since late 2002 and with The Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) since 2004. Trials also are underway with Southern California Edison (SCE) and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP).
