Description
Over the past 15 years, the Allegheny County Schools Health Insurance Consortium (ACSHIC) has provided an important service for the school districts of Allegheny County. The ACSHIC represents over 18,000 school district employees and retirees primarily within Allegheny County. Coverage is provided for one Intermediate Unit, 41 or the 42 School Districts and 4 area Vo-Tech Schools. The Heinz Foundation initially subsidized the Consortium to become the only health care provider in the area for public employees, and encourage all districts to enroll in a p common plan. The ACSHIC is currently governed by 22 Trustees 11 Management and 11 Labor representatives. The 11 Management representatives include one representative from the AIU, four Superintendents (one from each region), two Business Managers and four School Board Members. The 11 Labor representatives include three from the PaFT, five from the PSEA, and three from the SEIU.
