Description
“Facing Depression” Series to run in January Depression is estimated to affect about 18 million Americans on an annual basis. While it is a very common and potentially disabling illness, it also is highly treatable. Depression does not discriminate and affects people of all ages, races and ethnicities, and professions. Women experience depression more often than men. Depression frequently co-exists with other conditions and may make the other conditions worse. It often accompanies anxiety disorders and a host of medical conditions including heart disease, cancer, HIV / AIDS, and diabetes. The co-existence of mood disorders and substance abuse is pervasive in the United States. (National Institute of Mental Health, http://www.nimh.nih.gov/ ) Public television, radio and online resources will focus on a variety of programs about this serious disorder. The multi-media project will focus on stories of people affected by depression. The project was designed to educate and offer hope and information about local help resources.
