High efficiency furnaces have been around for over 20 years. They utilize combustion air from outside the home to help achieve their efficiency. They are vented with either 2inch or 3inch PVC and therefore do not vent into your existing chimney. In certain cases the existing chimney must be lined when switching to a high efficiency furnace. The reason being that removing the furnace exhaust from the chimney may create a situation where the chimney is not heated enough in winter to create the appropriate draft for the other appliances venting into it, typically the hot water heater. Upon inspection we would be able to tell you if a chimney lining is necessary.

There are many different models and manufacturers of electronic air cleaners. Our preference is the Aprilaire 5000, which utililizes a HEPA media filter to collect particles which become charged once they pass through an electronic cell. The only maintenance is replacement of the media filter once a year.
