Dock Designs Our dock designs are the product of years of construction experience on Lake Murray and the South Carolina Midlands. Since 1980 we have strived to build the best docks available, while keeping the costs in check. The waves, the weather, fluctuating lake levels, and aquatic rodents are all forces to be reckoned with. The solutions to these challenges come from constant research and a never-ending effort to stay on top of cutting-edge techniques and materials. Our finished product has lines that are level, straight, and true. Each board is hand-selected for its specific position on the dock. Careful attention to cup, crown, edge, and even grain density pays off in the final product. Staggering the joints in the band and the handrail insures a rigid overall structure. Each floating dock floats level in the water, even with the weight of the access ramp bearing on it. When the water recedes, the floating dock comes to rest on 4x4 legs, in an exactly level posture. The life expectancy of the treated wood is 40 years. Our goal is to make sure the hardware, fasteners, floats, and other components last just as long. Please call us for a free estimate. --Buck Mooneyhan. Design Upgrades During the last two years, we have found several ways to add even more longevity to the life of our hardware. We have shifted away from painted metal and rubber rollers. In the past, we primed and painted our steel access ramps, as well as our roller bracket frames, with the best industrial coating we could find. Even though all those coatings are holding up quite well, we found ways to add even more permanence to the finishes of these components: Before, rubber rollers were commonly used to allow the steel ramp to roll along the floating dock's surface. They were also used within the roller brackets, rolling along the surface of the wooden or metal poles that hold the floating dock in place. We now use a new UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) galvanized piling bracket. There are three advantages: -“Ultra High Molecular Weight” plastic is self lubricating, unaffected by marine environment, and next to impossible to wear out. On-the-job wear test and engineering data shows that this material wears five times better than any rubber or polyolefin materials on the market. -The new UHMW galvanized piling bracket sits flush with the decking on the dock, which adds to the visual appeal and speaks to the comprehensive engineering found throughout the entire dock system.
