Agile Learning News 1. Agile Selected for National Schools’ Implementation – May 12, 2009 – The Rwanda Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) and Agile Learning Company, Incorporated signed a contract today for Agile to develop the School-Based EMIS solution for implementation in the nation’s 5,200 schools and universities. The solution is being developed to enable all schools and universities to use ICT to manage better their institutions’ activities, as well as to send critical school information to the Ministry of Education and District offices for monitoring and evaluation, strategic planning and decision making. Agile Learning is also responsible for training the 5,200 schools on the usage of the School-Based EMIS solution. Agile is reconfiguring its AgileSAMS Solution for the school-based deployment – the AgileSAMS solution was selected as a Microsoft Best Practices ICT Solutions for Governments, in April of 2008. 2. World Bank Selects Agile for Impact Evaluation Consultancy, May 5, 2009 – Agile Learning has just been selected via tender to serve as a Consultant to the World Bank for its Impact Evaluation Project in Rwanda. Agile’s work includes working with the Bank on evaluating the factors that improve or deter teaching effectiveness. Consultancy activities include student/teacher evaluations, administering examinations, observations, data related activities and reporting. 3. National Examinations Council Selects Agile for SMS/Online Examinations System – November 2008 - Agile Learning Selected to Develop National Examinations Council Examinations Registration, SMS/Online Results & Management Information System. Agile Learning was selected by the Rwanda National Examinations Council (RNEC), via tender, to develop their Examination Co-ordination and Management Information System (ECMIS). As part of the ECMIS, Agile will provide modules which will address one of H.E. President Kagame’s stated top priorities in 2008 of developing the nation’s capacity to use SMS/Cell technology to improve service delivery for students and families by receiving their National Examinations Results via SMS or Online technology. The contract also calls for Agile to provide ICT training to all of the RNEC’s staff. John Rutaisire, Executive Director of RNEC said, “The RNEC has been moving from strength to strength in the direction of realizing VISION 2020, EDPRS, and MDGs’. The time is now ripe to address qualitative improvements in the examinations system. RNEC is currently developing a web-based tool to enable it to improve coordination and management of high stakes public examinations processes.” As part of the solution, Agile will develop the functionality which enables RNEC to use SMS technology. “We are installing and configuring the system to enable students to query the RNEC database by SMS text for their results as well as through the web & also to verify their registration status”, the Executive Director said. The ECMIS will be completed by early 2009, “…we go into the East African Community of nations as strong, active and competitive participants.” 4. Agile will also provide workshops on Agile ICT solutions for UNDP-SACI employees from the 9 country programme members. Dr. Roland Msiska Director of SACI stated, “UNDP/SACI has chosen Agile as an ICT partner as their solutions can provide governments with the most innovative and comprehensive technology applications that will foster success in our Capacity utilization programs”. 19.
