WHAT'S NEWS AIDS Community Health Center is Celebrating 20 Years of Service to the Community! We have been providing medical care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS since 1989. “A diagnosis of HIV/AIDS is no longer a death sentence. Today, we have a significant body of knowledge about the disease and the drugs to treat people so they can live healthier and longer lives,” says Dr. Bill Valenti, staff physician and co-founder of AIDS Community Health Center, formerly known as Community Health Network. But what a different story it was in 1981, when the first cases of AIDS in the USA appeared. Little was known about what caused this disease that attacked immune systems and wreaked havoc in the bodies of its victims. “All we could do was treat symptoms and provide comfort care,” says Dr. Steve Scheibel, co-founder of AIDS Community Health Center. So 20 years ago, Drs. Valenti and Scheibel decided to open an HIV/AIDS clinic where the very sick could receive high quality, compassionate medical care and support all under one roof - a concept that has turned out to be a unique and differentiating element of care at AIDS Community Health Center. “Today we provide primary care, medical case management, and a host of other services to give patients the best chance for achieving optimal health.
