Smith Eastern began distributing turbine-operated HVLP paint spray guns for other manufacturers in the early 80 s. With the first shipments came the first complaints: slow application rate, poor finish quality, and inability to spray high-performance coatings and an electrical explosion hazard. From the search to eliminate these shortcomings, AirVerter was born. AirVerter s advanced jet-venturi technology and high-volume open-passage spray gun designs have made it a favorite among aviation and marine industry painting professionals. A full line of spray guns and attachments serves the varied needs of military users from spraying CARC on M-1 tanks to epoxies aboard ships to the latest high-performance polyurethane coatings on aircraft. Nine patents with additional patents pending cover AirVerter s unique technology. Over the years AirVerter representatives observed the inefficiency of moving both large items, such as airplanes, and small parts into a spray booth for touch-up painting. One of AirVerter s spray gun customers, Northrop Grumman, had developed SCAQMD approved technology to allow touch-up spraying in one of its main refurbishing facilities. In 1998 AirVerter acquired the license from Northrop Grumman Corporation to build mobile air filtration equipment using Northrop s proprietary technology.
