It struck me like a bolt of lightning! I was twelve years old and looking at the pictures I'd taken all summer — family vacation, sixth-grade picnic, landscapes. I had a new Kodak Hawkeye — my first camera - funded by my paper route money. I was also a voracious reader of science fiction — Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke — and it struck me as I looked at all these snapshots in time that what I had in that little Hawkeye was a time machine. If I chose a moment in time judiciously and made a photographic image of it, I could travel back in time to relive that moment in my memory any time I wanted to.
