Description

During the renovation of the Herring Cove property, restoration of a non-operating historic sawmill located in a corner of the ARS property was completed. This custom-cut mill was operated by legendary pioneer Ben Fleenor for 50 years. Guided wildlife sanctuary tours commenced in 2004; they include a visit to the Herring Bay Lumber Company mill in honor of Ben Fleenor. A master Native Totem pole carver was added to the tour in 2005.
