Alison Shaw is a fine art and editorial photographer who lives and works on Martha's Vineyard. Alison first moved to the island in 1975 after graduating from Smith College, and took a job at the weekly newspaper the Vineyard Gazette , where she worked as a photographer and graphic designer for nearly 25 years. The island has provided the inspiration and subject matter for much of her color and black-and-white photography. Over 5000 original fine art prints are in public and private collections. Three books of Alison's work have been published — Vineyard Summer (Little Brown 1994), Remembrance and Light: Images of Martha's Vineyard (Harvard Common Press 1984) and Until I Saw the Sea (Henry Holt 1995). To be published in 2005 are Vineyard Harvest with chef Tina Miller, The Artistry of Stone with stonemason Lew French, and Finding Martha's Vineyard by island summer resident Jill Nelson. Alison's work appears regularly in Yankee Magazine , Martha's Vineyard Magazine and Cape Cod Life . She teaches photography workshops for the Maine Photographic Workshops and Santa Fe Workshops. Alison works with her partner Sue Dawson, the designer of Alison's books and other publications, and Claire Cain, who manages the studio. Alison Shaw Photography is based in an upstairs loft space at 73 Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs. Alison lives with her family in Oak Bluffs.
