Paula has worked in the legal profession since 1980. She has extensive experience in corporate and civil litigation and now specializes exclusively in probate and post mortem trust administration in a paralegal capacity. Paula is experienced in the preparation of Federal and State Estate tax returns, and Federal Gift and Generation Skipping transfer returns. Paula's experience with the firm (and its predecessor in interest) is in excess of 10 years.

The Firm's belief that a few good people can make a difference has been the foundation of a long tradition and history of service to the community. In 1980 we donated services to Para Los Ninos, to help a struggling young organization form and become a viable 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax exempt organization dedicated to helping the children of Skid row in Los Angeles. The Firm has continued to provide services to help support this organization that today operates a day care program and family support services for the children of the area.

Estate, gift and post mortem tax planning. Scott has extensive experience in the areas of estate, gift and post mortem tax planning including marital deduction and generation skipping planning, sophisticated gift planning, the use of so-called "estate freeze" techniques, including the use of family limited partnerships, limited liability companies, grantor retained income trusts ("GRITS"), charitable remainder and charitable lead trusts, and irrevocable gift trusts (including so-called "crummey" trusts, generation skipping trusts and life insurance trusts).

Alperstein, Simon, Farkas, Gillin & Scott, LLP encourages the creative use of revocable living Trusts to satisfy family and personal objectives, including the avoidance of probate and probate expenses, the elimination or substantial reduction of federal estate taxes and the avoidance of conservatorship proceedings.

Ms. Mestman is a certified paralegal in litigation from the University of California, Los Angeles and holds certificates in facilitation and mediation from the Los Angles County Bar Association Dispute Resolution Services, Straus Institute, Pepperdine, EEOC, Centinela Youth Services, and the U.S. Post Office. Ms. Mestman has extensive experience working with the Alternative Dispute Resolution office within the Los Angeles Superior Court system. She has lectured on conflict resolution, trained peer mediators, trained mediator volunteers, served as a mediator for the U.S.
