About Alpha Investment Management Alpha was founded in 1997 by Dr. Arthur J. Minton. Dr. Minton had previously served as a partner in an institutional investment consulting firm headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. In his capacity as a consultant, he came to the conclusion that the vast majority of money managers were merely duplicating the popular stock market indexes and added little in the way of value to the investment process. During the late 1990s, he became convinced that the U.S. market was about to enter a long period of sub-par returns, and that long-term investors would welcome a new methodology which would protect assets through extended periods of high volatility.
