ARRA The American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), provides for substantial financial incentives to healthcare providers implementing and demonstrating the “meaningful use” of a certified EMR. Although the final certification criteria has yet to be released, AltaPoint is already hard at work implementing functionality to bring AltaPoint EMR in line with the proposed ARRA specifications. HIPAA, AltaPoint, and WorkSmartMD: On October 1st 2003, WorkSmart MD, Incorporated (www.worksmartmd.com), an independent HIPAA consulting firm, concluded its HIPAA assessment of the AltaPoint Practice Management software. The assessment was performed by setting up a local workstation running the AltaPoint Practice Management software version 5.0. The conclusion: AltaPoint Practice Management facilitates compliance with many of the HIPAA requirements and can assist health care providers with implementation of the HIPAA standards (see PDF).
