Description

Alternative Investment Group was co-founded in August 1996 by Stewart Greenfield and David Storrs to manage marketable alternative investments through a fund of funds approach, with a focus on fundamentally-oriented, hedged investment strategies. The firm's funds are modeled on an 18-manager fund of hedge funds managed by Stewart Greenfield from 1990 to 1996 to invest his own capital and that of his former partners at Oak Investment Partners, one of the premier venture capital firms in the U.S.. The firm launched Alternative Investments, L.P., for U.S. taxable investors, in late 1996; Alternative Investments Institutional, L.P., for U.S. tax-exempt investors, in January 1998; Alternative Investments International, L.P, for U.S. taxable and tax-exempt investors, in July 2003; and Alternative Investments Multi-Strategy, Ltd., for U.S. tax-exempt investors, in December 2005. In October 1999, the firm was appointed sub-advisor for the Diversified Absolute Return Fund, a Guernsey-based fund managed by London-based Stamford Associates, primarily for U.K. pension funds.
