America's First was founded in 1936 at U.S. Steel's Ensley Works in Birmingham, Alabama to provide services to underserved individuals. America's First has grown to a full-service, one-stop financial institution with over $1 billion dollars in assets and 18 branch locations . Always committed to providing cost effective financial services for its members, America's First is one of the strongest credit unions in the nation.

Every member of America's First owns a share of the credit union and is required to maintain a $5 balance in a Share Account (savings). America's First is a full service credit union with accounts federally insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and supplemental share insurance of up to $250,000 provided by Excess Share Insurance (ESI).
