The Carpet Shoppe first opened its doors on January 2, 1974, within the Consumer City Furniture Store at 2310 Kamehameha Highway. At that time the Company consisted of five employees. By June of 1974, the first of many exciting expansions had begun. The Installation Department was started to service the Company's customers, and a small warehouse was acquired to store the recently increased inventory and necessary installation tools and equipment. Then in 1976, our first American Carpet Company Showroom opened on Young Street. At that time, it was the largest freestanding carpet showroom in Hawaii. And as the volume of business rapidly increased, the number of employees also continued to grow. We hired our Company's first inventory and scheduling personnel, which started our Service Department. On May 1, 1978, we opened our showroom in the BJ Furniture Store on Beretania Street. And in August of 1978, The Carpet Shoppe, Inc., which had now outgrown the small showroom in the Consumer City Store was moved to a new location, with room for both the warehouse and showroom in the same building. With this move, The Carpet Shoppe name for our retail outlet was phased out and was taken as the name of the corporation. The new location opened as the American Carpet Company. The years of 1979 and 1980 were both growth years for the Company.
