Description

WSJA sees longtime Executive Board Ron Meek retires from the Executive Board after almost two decades of service. As one of the longest serving board members, his accomplishments are many. Ron Meek has finally decided to focus his energy on other pursuits. As Ron looks to retire from corrections work he has said his future will include "traveling in a plush RV touring the country listening to good music and drinking fine whiskey." We wish Ron the best in all his endeavors. He has greatly impacted the Association and his absence will be missed. We thank him for his service, helping to improve the conditions for all of us working in the Corrections filed. Ron's service history: • He was a member of the board since 1992 and was our treasurer for many years. • During his tenure he helped double the membership. • He worked tirelessly to establish a Retirement System for Public Safety Employees. House Bill 2537 in March 2004 was signed due to the Board's efforts. • He won numerous President's Awards. • He formed his own Rhythm and Blues security company. • He loves to ride his Harley whenever possible and is known as "Papa Ron" to most people in the Harley community. • During his time on the WSJA Executive Board he recruited many past board members and general membership as well. Board Comments: "Our Board meetings will never be the same. I will miss that wry sense of humor during Board discussions and ever friendly." "Ron has done so much to grow this Association. We forget how small we use to be." "He was a big presence during the hearing on the retirement system." " He was a great money manager for us. He spent years as our Treasurer because no one else could do it better."
