In 1954, Angel View Crippled Children’s Foundation was founded on a natural hot mineral water spring in Desert Hot Springs, CA by a group of parents whose children suffered from polio. The therapeutic waters, considered among the highest quality in the world, soothed the children's aches and pains and helped in their rehabilitation. The children's visionary parents named the new charitable foundation Angel View after a naturally occurring rock formation at the base of Mt. San Jacinto. With dedication of purpose and the generosity of supporters throughout the desert, a 52-bed rehabilitation facility was constructed on donated land high up on Miracle Hill Road in Desert Hot Springs. Originally, clients were cared for at this facility which now serves as the organization's administrative center. When polio was eradicated, Angel View expanded its treatment program to care for children and young adults with orthopedic disorders, many of whom were also developmentally disabled. We now care for clients with a full spectrum of orthopedic and neuromuscular disorders. Today, Angel View operates 18 group homes for the developmentally disabled. Our newest home, which opened in 2008, marked an important expansion of our services. The Marion Ashley House was built to provide 24-hour nursing care to disabled infants and toddlers who have been removed from their homes by the court system. Also in 2008, we launched a Day Program for developmentally disabled adults from throughout the Coachella Valley. Looking forward, we anticipate our 19th home opening soon. It will expand our ability to provide care to developmentally disabled individuals whose conditions are medically fragile. As we have since 1954, we will continue to monitor the needs of the community and provide the intensive services needed to care for the developmentally disabled.
