Description

About Our Business Welcome to our Internet Gallery. We are located in La Jolla, California, 15 minutes north of downtown San Diego, 2 hours south of Los Angeles and 30 minutes north of the US-Mexico Border. Established in 1991, we are members of the International Map Collectors Society, California Map Society, a number of other regional map societies and the San Diego Booksellers Association. In addition to our Gallery overlooking the La Jolla Cove and the Pacific Ocean, we exhibit periodically at antiquarian map and book fairs in the U.S. and Europe. We launched our internet gallery in late 1997, with the idea of providing a comprehensive selection of original antique maps in an easily navigated and heavily illustrated format. Since that time, we have assisted hundreds of internet clients, from beginners to the most advanced collectors and shipped to over 60 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Oceana and Africa. We pride ourselves in offering perhaps the largest selection of antique maps available on the internet, with a comprehensive selection of material for all collectors. We offer a wide selection of maps of all parts of the world from the 15th to the 19th Centuries, as well as Celestial Maps, Atlases, books with maps, history of cartography reference books and Curiosities. We have less than 50% of our inventory on line and reserve a large stock of atlases, wall maps, case maps, pocket maps and Americana with maps which is only offered periodically by catalogue, at fairs or on request. If you are looking for important early Americana maps, please inquire. In the past several years, we have had a number of major maps, including Wall Maps by Melish, Popple, Tanner, Arrowsmith, John Mitchell, Lewis Robinson, Shelton & Kennsett and Montressor, Case Maps by Arrowsmith, Tanner, Keeler, Carrigain, Mitchell, Lloyd, Finley, Melish, Fry & Jefferson, Mouzon, Bernard Romans, Collett and a host of others, American Atlases by John Reid, Matthew Carey, both the Tanner and Finley American Atlases, Jeffreys American Atlas, the Holster Atlas and the Collot Atlas, and dozens of rare and highly collectable Pocket Maps, including the only known example of Pressler's 1851 map of Texas in original covers, a pristine example of the Disturnell Treaty Map, the De Lacy Montana, Larkin California and the only recorded example of Fielding Lucas Jr.'s first separately issued map. We have also had many wonderful and important Americana books with maps, including works by De Bry, Linschoten, Le Moyne, Lederer, Hennepin, Hutchins, Bartram, von Humboldt, Lewis & Clark, Edwin James, Zebullon Pike, Perrin Du Lac, Duflot du Mofras, Mary Austin Holley, Josiah Gregg, Redpath & Hinton, and many other treasures. We also maintain an excellent collection of American & European Travel Guides describing early travel in the North America, especially to Texas & the West. Our goal is to establish and maintain individualized relationships with our clients. We have chosen to deal in antique maps because of our own love of the material and the pleasure of participating in the establishment and development of the collections of both our private and institutional clients. We are always pleased to recommend reference books, answer questions and share our knowledge and passion for antique maps.
