"Clinical Chaplain Dan Hamel, who runs Lakeview’s music program, considers music-making an important way for people to connect with sources of spiritual strength in their lives. He hopes Electrik Fest will make it possible to repair or replace some of the program’s older instruments. Fifteen years ago, in one of his first assignments at Lakeview, Hamel started collecting instruments for clients to supplement their regular therapeutic programs with music-making. He received a grant six years ago to purchase hand drums for client drum circles. “I use those drums both recreationally with the clients to have a good time, but I also use it as an experiential metaphor,” he said.
