Welcome to the APMSA Governance Page! This page contains descriptions and information about the APMSA Leadership including the Executive Committee and Liaisons within the APMSA House of Delegates. Please use this to familiarize yourself with the leadership of the APMSA and also to better understand how the APMSA works to advocate for students across the country. THE APMSA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE CONSISTS OF: APMSA President DAVID G. MCKENZIE II - AZPOD Class of 2010 This person stands as a representative of the APMSA and the profession, subjugating personal opinion and gain for the betterment of the Association. He/She plans and executes the annual APMSA Leadership and Orientation meeting. He/She presides at the semi-annual APMSA House of Delegates meetings. He/She serves as a voting delegate at the annual APMA House of Delegates meeting in Washington, DC and gives a state of the Association address at that meeting representing podiatric medical students across the country. APMSA President-Elect ZACKARY B. GANGWER - AZPOD Class of 2011 This person is elected by the APMSA House of Delegates at the annual midwinter meeting. He/She assists the President of the APMSA whenever necessary. He/She is the Chair of the Executive Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. He/She serves as the Alternate Delegate at the annual APMA House of Delegates meeting in Washington, DC. APMSA Director of Development and Corporate Relations LENA KEESTER- SCPM Class of 2011 This person is appointed by certain members of the APMSA Executive Committee every two years. He/She hosts and runs two APMSA Corporate Advisory Board meetings per year. He/She attends at least one major podiatry conference per year to recruit new corporate advisory companies. This person is an integral member of the APMSA House of Delegates as they work hard to secure corporate support for the financial security of the APMSA. This individual works tirelessly on behalf of all podiatric medical students to gain and continue programs such as the ASICS catalogs, Free CROCS, and other membership programs. President of the APMSA Presidents' Committee JACOB MCLEOD - AZPOD Class of 2011 This person chairs the Presidents' Committee which consists of the presidents and president-elects from each of the eight podiatric medical colleges. Members of this committee serve as the main representatives between the APMSA and their school's government. They help to plan and coordinate programs within the individual schools which stem from the APMSA such as the annual Midwinter APMSA House of Delegates meeting held on a rotating basis near each school, the annual APMSA basketball tournament, etc. APMSA Liaison to the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine (AACPM) TRUDY K. SALMON - TUSPM Class of 2012 This liaison is a non-voting member of the AACPM Board of Directors. This liaison attends AACPM meetings whose board consists of members from among the following: Council of the Deans, Council of Teaching Hospitals, Council of Student Affairs Officers, American Podiatric Medical Association. This liaison is a vital link between the students and the colleges. The students must have a voice and an awareness of the actions of the colleges for both beneficial and non-beneficial information. APMSA Liaison to the American Podiatric Medical Association Board of Trustees DEREK PANTIEL- OCPM Class of 2011 This liaison is a non-voting member of the APMA BOT which consists of the APMA president, president-elect, vice president, treasurer, immediate past president and eight at-large board members. This liaison attends each of the four yearly APMA BOT meetings and gives written and oral reports representing the students perspectives on all issues discussed. This liaison also serves on the APMA Young Members Committee and the APMA Membership Committee. Executive Director- Dorothy Cahill-McDonald The Executive Director is employed part-time by the APMSA to manage the financial and operational aspects of the association and to serve as a non-voting member of the Executive Committee. She is an invaluable member of the APMSA and much appreciation goes to her for hard work on behalf of all podiatric medical students across the country. THE FOLLOWING ARE THE LIAISONS WITHIN THE APMSA HOUSE OF DELEGATES These liaisons report at the semi-annual APMSA House of Delegate meetings. Their reports may be obtained from your class delegate. American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management and the American Society of Podiatric Medical Assistants (AAPPM/ASPMA) LUCINDA MALVITZ- SCPM Class of 2011 This liaison attends annual AAPPM/ASPMA meetings and represents the APMSA's opinions on student related issues. Also, this liaison will serve to coordinate activities with the student chapters of the AAPPM. The AAPPM, known as “the friendliest group in podiatry,” exists to advance the study of podiatric practice management and promote success through sharing knowledge. American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine (ABPOPPM) BLAIR JOLLEY - TUSPM class of 2011 This liaison attends annual ABPOPPM meetings and serves to advocate for students there. The ABPOPPM is the medical specialty concerned with the comprehensive and continuous foot health care of patients. It integrates the biological, biomechanical, rehabilitative, clinical and behavioral sciences and encompasses first contact care, continuous care, long term care and general medicine. For more info on the ABPOPPM, please visit www.abpoppm.org . Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH) LAURA ZAGROCKI- TUSPM Class of 2010 This liaison serves as a voting member on the COTH board. He/She attends all COTH meetings and represents students views and opinions. He/She also works to keep students informed by providing reports at the semi-annual APMSA House of Delegates meetings. The Council of Teaching Hospitals of the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine is made up of over 200 institutions dedicated to excellence in post-graduate medical education through its podiatric residency programs. Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) MARK BENJAMIN ELLIS - CPMS class of 2011 This liaison serves as a non-voting member on the CPME and attends their annual meeting. The CPME evaluates and accredits degree programs in and specifically related to podiatric medicine. This includes schools, residencies, certifying boards, and continuing education. External Medical Liaison (EML) DARRELL BALLINGER- OCPM Class of 2010 This liaison serves to increase awareness of podiatric medicine in all fields of medicine by representing the APMSA in the American Medical Students' Association (AMSA) and the American Public Health Association-Student Assembly (APHA-SA). The primary objective of the EML is to better educate future health care professionals about the education and post-graduate training of the podiatric physician. The EML fosters and maintains relationships with these organizations and reports on his/her progress at the semi-annual APMSA House of Delegate meetings. National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) TED BUTTERFIELD- CPMS class of 2012 This liaison serves as a functional member of the NBPME Executive Board, having access to all discussions and documentation, except those relating to the development of testing material. It is the liaisons responsibility to provide reports from the students to the NBPME and reports from the NBPME to the students. It is his/her duty to maintain open dialogue with the NBPME, directing any questions or concerns to the executive director or assistant. For more info on the NBPME, please visit www.nbpme.org . American Podiatric Medical Association Political Action Committee (APMA PAC) KIM HOBIZAL- DMU CPMS Class of 2010 This liaison serves as a voting member of the APMA PAC Board of Directors. He/She attends two meetings a year to represent student involvment in the legislative actions of the APMA. He/She serves to coordinate APMSA efforts to garner contributions from among the student population at the podiatric medical colleges. He/She helps to coordinate the student involvement at the annual APMA Legislative Conference. He/She keeps the students updated on the progress of the APMA PAC and its success on Capitol Hill. Federal Service Podiatric Medical Association (FSPMA) RICHARD BOOTHBY- BUSPM Class of 2010 This liaison facilitates communication between the FSPMA and the APMSA. The major importance of this position lies within the students' relationship pertaining to residencies within federally funded programs such as the Veteran's Administration, Indian Health Services, and other military-related positions.
