Founded in 2003 by Peter Harrison and later joined by Michael Harrison, David Foy, and Mark Swaby, Affiliate Crew rapidly developed into a highly profitable leader in performance-based interactive marketing. Affiliate Crew built a scalable, technology-driven platform that enabled it to offer a diverse set of marketing services, such as website development, search marketing, and online lead generation. All of its services were offered on a pay-for-performance basis, allowing its customers to receive incremental revenue without risk or upfront costs.

Founded in 1988, Will Smith and Alan Gardner saw an opportunity to provide software and services to the catalog industry. As catalog companies opened up retail locations and developed e-commerce websites, Ecometry provided the technology to integrate their sales channels. In early 2001 Mr. Smith and Mr. Gardner hired John Marrah to take on day-to-day responsibilities after growing the company to over $20 million in revenues. In early 2004, the founders decided it was time to convert their ownership in the business into financial assets that would support their retirement.

Arbor's founders ran and managed private companies in the high-tech industry. In the process of raising capital or selling their companies, both founders used investment banks and were frustrated with the deal structure. It did not seem as if the investment bankers had added any value to the transaction. The founders started Arbor hoping to provide a sale process better tailored to entrepreneur-led businesses.
