Getting broadband service if you're a small or medium-sized business today is not easy, especially if your only option is expensive dedicated access. Retail shops, law offices, accountants, small chain stores and the like all crave high speed internet access but either can't afford dedicated access or find themselves beyond the range of business-grade DSL service. Cable operators, with their ubiquitous fiber-based networks and ability to deliver voice, video, and data services, would appear ideally positioned to serve this market. Until the formation of Arcwave, however, the thousand of SMBs lying within site of their networks where beyond their reach. Solving the last mile problem would not only provide much needed broadband service to small business owners but it would also open up a new multibillion dollar service market to cable operators when revenues from traditional services are flattening out.
