Corporation (NYSE-Y) announced today a new strategic partnership. Alleghany invested $250 million for a 6.25% equity ownership interest in Ares, which is privately held, and also committed to invest up to $1 billion of capital in various existing and new Ares investment strategies. Through its relationship with Ares, Alleghany seeks both to participate in Ares’ strong business prospects and to enhance the returns of its committed capital through Ares’ alternative asset expertise.
ACF is headquartered in New York, with offices in Manhattan and Tarrytown. As of May 31, 2014, ACF has 26 investment professionals and support staff dedicated to these products, which is augmented by the approximately 125 investment professionals in Ares’ Direct Lending Group and over 350 professionals in the Business Development, Accounting & Finance, IT, Compliance, Legal and Human Resource teams within Ares Management. The senior investment professionals of ACF have on average more than 30 years of experience in commercial finance and asset-based lending.
The European Direct Lending team is headquartered in London with offices in Paris, Stockholm and Frankfurt, covering the UK / Ireland and Southern, Northern and Central Europe. As of December 31, 2013, Ares has 29 investment professionals managing approximately $5.5 billion of total assets under management (1)(2) in direct lending products across more than 50 institutional investors. The senior investment professionals of the team have on average more than 17 years of experience in lending to middle market companies in Europe.
