The Arkansas Court Bulletin was founded in 1990 with a simple idea: to publish executive summaries of state appellate opinions for the lawyers of Arkansas. Practicing lawyers ourselves, we knew how important it was to lawyers throughout the state to stay updated on state appellate decisions, and how difficult it was to do. Law firms had regular hour-long weekly meetings, at which associates would present digests of new cases. Lawyers in smaller towns had regular advance sheet meetings to review recent cases. Lawyers and judges would stack up copies of advance reports, hoping to get to them on the weekend or after hours. When they did pick up the advance reports to read them, they found they had to read many pages of text even to discover what the subject-matter of the case was. Sometimes a ruling that was important to a case they were working on would be buried deep inside a lengthy opinion. It was easy to miss important rulings. We decided we would help these lawyers and judges. We launched the Arkansas Court Bulletin: A weekly bulletin containing executive summaries of Arkansas appellate court opinions. We summarize all published opinions pertaining to Arkansas. The format of the Arkansas Court Bulletin was developed specifically to save lawyers time.
