A pioneer in Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) asknet AG was founded in 1995 as a spin-off from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, from one of the best known computer science departments in Europe, comparable to MIT and Stanford in the US. asknet is one of the pioneers of eBusiness in Germany – it was the first company to offer electronic software sale and distribution services in Europe. In 1997, asknet launched a premier software portal "softwarehouse.biz" and recorded its first digital sale of IBM licensed software.
