In April 2012 The Board of Directors for the Florida East Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors passed a resolution stating their commitment to helping fight illegal contracting in our industry. Illegal contracting occurs when contractors fail to pay Workers Compensation, general Liability Coverage and Payroll Tax Law in order to drastically underbid their competition on public works.

One of the biggest issues currently facing the Commercial Construction Industry in Florida is a skilled worker shortage. Identifying job opportunities within the industry, educating people on the benefits of working in construction and offering the necessary skills training continue to be one of the biggest hurdles out there. This legislation allows for the creation of a "Statewide Concrete Masonry Education Council" that can focus on the above efforts in a direct manner on behalf of this aspect of our industry.
