During the 82 years since the Memorial was erected, time and weather have taken their toll. The exterior sidewalls have deteriorated and water has begun to invade the building and will continue into the structural elements if left unrepaired. A group of Atchison County residents have formed the Atchison County Memorial Building Foundation. The Foundation is a tax-exempt Chapter 501 (c) (3) organization which enables contributions to be eligible for income tax deductions, depending upon the contributor's tax status. The purpose of the foundation is: The Foundation is led by a Board of Directors who are elected from the general membership. Each school district is represented on the Board by 3 members of the Foundation, including 1 American Legion Member. The Foundation meets the first Wednesday of each month with an Annual Meeting held the first Saturday of April.
