My education has been VERY expensive. My years of college were not so bad, but the cost associated with attending classes at the school of hard knocks has been high indeed. I realize that lessons learned from personal experience are invaluable and are the steel that hones a person to a fine edge. My journey would, however have been easier had I tuned my ear a little more toward those that were actually building wealth by buying, renting and selling houses, and a little less to those motivated to sell books and tapes. Please do not misunderstand, I still read books and listen to tapes, and so should you. It is my opinion, however that the most important aspects of your real estate education should revolve around networking with successful and reputable real estate entrepreneurs. Here is my suggestion for how you should begin your real estate training. 1. Join a local real estate investors association such as Jacksonville Real Estate Investors Association . To locate an organization in your hometown, visit National Real Estate Investors Association 2. Attend every educational opportunity available. Make it a habit to never miss an opportunity to learn. Purchase educational materials as recommended by experienced entrepreneurs. 3. Purchase your first property from a respected wholesaler with a reputation for mentoring his/her buyers through the entire entrepreneurial process. 4. Review your goals and plans with your mentor to make sure you only purchase properties that match your plans, assets and abilities. 5. After disposing of your first property, review the deal with your mentor, make necessary adjustments and do it again, and again, and again! 6. Once you have a few successful deals under your belt, you may wish to acquire your properties directly from the seller. Many successful entrepreneurs actually continue to work with wholesalers their entire career. Will you make mistakes? Certainly. Will you make millions? I hope so! Choose your associates wisely, study hard, persevere and always remember, It's not the critic who counts. It's not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of the deed could have done it better.
