Bill Filmore practiced law in Ozark for 20 years and then served as District Judge for 2 years before becoming the Chief Assistant District Attorney for the 33rd Judicial Circuit. As a practicing attorney, Bill was the youngest top rated (AV) attorney in Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory for Dale County, Alabama. Bill was born in Florence, Alabama, on July 6, 1958 and was admitted to Alabama Bar in 1983 and soon thereafter admited to practice in the following federal courts: U.S. District Court, Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama and U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit. Bill received his education from Troy State University (B.S., magna cum laude, 1980); University of Alabama (J.D., Law Degree, 1983; LL.M. - Masters of Law in Taxation, 1987). While in school Bill was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, Phi Alpha Delta, Phi Kappa Phi, Gamma Beta Phi and the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society. Bill is a member of the Christian Legal Society. Bill is a former Special Assistant Attorney General. While in private practice Bill was the only attorney in Dale County that was a Certified Civil and Domestic Relations Mediator with special training in Domestic Violence. As a private Attorney Bill represented both the Ozark and Daleville City Boards of Education and served . As an attorney Bill served as the Prosecutor for the City of Daleville for over 10 years. Bill served for several years as a member of the Supreme Court of Alabama's Standing Committee on Alabama Rules of Judicial Administration. Bill is a member of the Dale County Bar Association and served as President for two years from 1990-1992. While in the practice of law, Bill was a member of the Volunteer Lawyers Program. Bill is a member of the Executive Committee, Dale County Childern's Policy Council; Alabama State Bar; Member of the Steering Committee of the Dale County Domestic Violence Task Force; and Chairman, Dale County Law Library Advisory Committee. Bill is a former member of the American Judicature Society and the Alabama District Judge's Association
