Description

The Naming of Avalon Lodge: “Avalon” was a mythical set of islands off the shore of Britiannia (Britian) where the inhabitants lived in peace and harmony. They aspired to teach and help when they could. When they became threatened by violence from the humans living on the mainland, they shrouded their islands in a magical mist to eternally protect them. Thus the mystery of Avalon began. In later years, it was said that Avalon was the place kings and heros journeyed to before they passed away. King Arthur, himself, was said to have gone there.Like all mythology and lore, these stories are subject to our interpretations. The Hansen’s found the story of Avalon and the lore surrounding it fascinating, entertaining and provocative. “To us, Avalon was a desirable place where people lived in peace and comfort— what a perfect thing for a motel to strive for”, says Jill Hansen, “and what a beautiful name”. They quit the rat race and to set out to create a new life for themselves. Sick and tired of being driven by demanding employers and working incredible hours a couple from the Silicon Valley dreamed of another way of life. Each week they worked so many hours, they hardly saw each other. When they did, they were too tired to do the things in life they enjoyed. They wanted to set their own pace. They wanted time for themselves and time for each other. They fantasized about leaving their high-powered jobs and buying a quaint motel.
