Description
Avir is a Charlottesville-based company dedicated to the development of simple, robust and cost-effective solutions for sensing hazardous chemicals for Homeland Security and environmental applications. The company was founded by its Chairman Dr. Gabriel Laufer in 1997 to bring to the market technology developed at the University of Virginia. With significant private and government funding, and enjoying an exclusive license from the University of Virginia. Avir completed successfully the development of the Totally Optical Vapor Analyzer (TOVAä) for fixed security application and is now developing a man portable remote sensor of chemicals. The fixed security sensors use patented IR technology and are designed to protect buildings, airports, subways, or fence lines from accidents or attacks involving toxic industrial chemical (TICs) or chemical warfare agents (CWA). The technology is now mature and was demonstrated in deployments at several test sites.
