The power given to police and customs officers to seize cash is being used with increasing frequency; in practice, anyone carrying cash over £1,000 is at risk of having it seized and having, in effect, to prove that it is legitimate or risk its forfeiture. Our lawyers have extensive experience of cash seizure cases and a strong track record of obtaining the return of wrongly seized cash, often without the need for court proceedings.

Much of Duncan's experience has been in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He has experience in matters including fraud (on Madoff and timeshare investment schemes) and professional negligence (acting against national and international law firms). He has also assisted in advising companies on the ramifications of the Bribery Act. Duncan has worked with a range of high profile clients including heads of state, bankers and sports personalities.

Working closely with lead partner Mark Haslam, she has broad and in depth experience of serious and general crime. She has defended investigations and prosecutions for murder (including representing an alleged serial killer), manslaughter, money laundering, large scale drugs importation, and road traffic offences (often arising out of a fatal accident). As such, she has a wealth of experience of defending investigations and prosecutions by the Crown Prosecution Service and Revenue & Customs.

We provide a total service, including representation at the outset of a criminal investigation (whether in relation to the execution of a search warrant, arrest and interview under caution, or voluntary attendance at a police station) through to the various stages of the court process, including applying for the charges to be dismissed and conducting the trial (both in the Magistrates’ Court and the Crown Court). Our team includes first class advocates and litigators with a huge wealth of experience in the most serious, legally challenging and forensically complex criminal cases.
