It is believed that the first printing press was converted from a wine press by Gutenberg in the late 15th century. A few centuries earlier, the Romans, known for their love of good food and wine, named their God of wine Bacchus. Is it farfetched? We don't think so. But at least now you know the origin of our name. Bacchus Press was originally located on University Avenue in Berkeley. The shop consisted of a few letterpress presses and an original Linotype lead type typesetting machine.
