Description

As his first business endeavor into the wood industry, Ed Baker started Skyline Scragg Mill, a scragg mill operation located in Ellington, Missouri. The business began in 1979. In 1982, Ed built the first thin-kerf horizontal band resaw with a goal to recover boards from slabs off the scragg mill. He later began building pallets with the boards he was recovering and sold them to Grogan Pallet, pallet brokerage firm also located in Ellington. In 1986, as his customer base grew, Ed saw the need to expand his source for raw material, so he purchased the Kerr-McGee Sawmill. This is the site on which the current plant is located.During the next few years, other local pallet mill owners began pressing Ed to sell a resaw like the one he built to recover boards from slabs for himself. After selling the first two resaws he built, Ed realized the need for this type of equipment in the wood industry and in 1988 he established Ellington Manufacturing Inc.Ellington Manufacturing purchased the assets of Hazeldine Machinery Company in 1993, which allowed for the opportunity to broaden the line of products that it offered.
