Baron has worked to expand the meteorological reach of the broadcast , aviation , marine , public service and government sectors for over 20 years. By improving the timeliness and accuracy of meteorological information, Baron and our partners are working to provide the best possible protection of life and property in the US and internationally.

Dual-pol radar has been a continuing area of focus. Baron worked with the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) to develop the first dual-polarization weather radar for broadcast television . In 2007, the National Weather Service selected L-3 STRATIS, in partnership with Baron, to upgrade 171 NEXRAD installations for the NWS, FAA and DOD-a project successfully completed in spring 2013. With radar installations around the globe, Baron is experienced in the design and installation of the best radar options for government or broadcast needs.

Our shear-derived data products are good examples of our approach to consumer-driven weather, because they break down very complex meteorology into a digestible, easy to understand package that instantly illustrates sophisticated weather situations for the average person. The accuracy and specificity we provide gives us a good chance that they'll be called to action when the time comes by seeking shelter, or informing others in harm's way.

After a deadly tornado ripped through Huntsville, AL in November 1989, local broadcast meteorologist Bob Baron recognized the need for timely, site-specific weather tools. His newly formed company, Baron Services, had already partnered with NASA to develop a lightning detection system that would help pinpoint severe weather on the map. From there, Baron went on to develop the first street-level storm tracking system and pioneer 3D radar display and circular shear markers with the VIPIR display software .
