In 1984, Meredith Beam, the founding Principal of the firm, formed BBC Associates, which became incorporated in 1994 and was renamed BEAM, inc. Meredith had been vice president of human resources with Joseph Magnin Specialty stores; Wallpapers To Go; Dayton Hudson Jewelers and Androbot, a high technology start-up firm in Silicon Valley. Meredith initially worked with small, high-growth technology companies in her consulting practice. She worked in collaboration with senior management teams to design and implement human resource plans complementary to the company's vision and strategy. By May 1987, BBC Associates was primed for further expansion. Dan Beam, Meredith's husband, joined the firm and extended its consulting services and client base.
